Google “Speed Update” For Mobile – Coming July 2018

Most qualified web designers and developers understand that speed can play a major role in your search ranking.  Google wants to deliver the best possible search experience to its visitors.  Sending visitors to websites that take 10 seconds to load does not produce that experience.  Therefore, slow sites typically lose search ranking unless their content quality is the absolute best in the business.

Coming July 2018, Google has publically announced that page speed will begin becoming a factor for mobile searches.

So what does that mean for you?

To be honest, our team here as Bold City has been under the impression that Google has been taking into account page speed on mobile searches for the last 3+ years.  Therefore, if your website was developed by our team, your site is likely already well optimized for mobile traffic.  Furthermore, since the Google announcement specifically states, “[it] will only affect pages that deliver the slowest experience to users and will only affect a small percentage of queries”, we can pretty much guarantee that this will not affect any of our clients.

What this announcement does trigger is the ongoing belief that load time will continue to be a substantial factor in page ranking both on desktop and mobile going forward.  A great user experience is having great load times.  A website can have all the bells and whistles in the world but if it can’t load them effectively for your visitors, those bells won’t ring and those whistles won’t blow.
